THE FAIRIES COOK BOOK - 1927 FISHER FLOURING MILLS

I hope everyone had a fabulous new year! I’m starting off the new year with a pretty little recipe book from Fisher Flouring Mills Co. It’s a lovely fairy themed cook booklet with loads of fanciful recipes for cakes, pies, puddings, cookies, breads, French pastry and sandwiches. It is a 55-page booklet produced by the Fisher Flouring Mills Company, West Waterway, Harbor Island, Seattle, with recipes by Mrs. Isabelle Clark Swezy. All the recipes use Fisher’s Blend Flour. The booklet was printed by Lumbermen’s Printing Company, Seattle. The binding is done with braided baby blue cotton cording. General directions for making bread can be found plus household hints, recipes for “the invalid” and supplemental recipes to make cooking more economically friendly. What I love the most is a charming poem they have included titled "The Mill The Fairies Built". It's a delightful little poem that explains how the fairies brought about the building of Fisher Flour Mills through the pleas of little children whose mothers were producing sad and frankly, bad baked goods! Take a look at the poem and some great recipes in my pics below!

Such a sweet little poem! My Nanny would have loved this!

The index shows 183 recipes as well as 25 supplemental recipes.

There are a lot of interesting cake recipes. I’m particularly fond of the “Gentleman’s Favorite Cake” recipe and intrigued by the “Country Pork Cake” that calls for 1 pound of salt pork and 1/2 pound of citron. I had to Google both ingredients to find out what they were and where to get them. I think I may try my hand at that one.

I hope you enjoyed having a look at this fantastic vintage cook booklet! This week I’ll be visiting a local thrift mall in Columbus, GA and taking you along! I also have two vintage recipe booklets from the 1930’s to share with you distributed by Angelus Marshmallows. The art work on the cover is SO CUTE!! Till then, TOODLES!
